Regarding D3, you are correct and there are old and very new studies that bare out the fact that as the blood level of D3 rises above 35 ng.mL the resistance to coronavirus and other respiratory viruses and bacteria increases. One study showed that if folks could maintain a level of 50 ng/mL the infection rate could be driven to zero.
I too have high D3 blood levels. When I was in the hospital in September 2020 for a dislocated or broken right hip, my blood D3 concentration was 98 ng/mL. Two days after surgery I developed some chest congestion and a fever. This was attributed to anesthesia. In three days it was gone. Three months later I was tested for covid antibodies and based upon the test results my PCP advised me not to get any vaccine or jab. The testing indicated that I would be immune to coronavirus.
My blood D3 level was checked a month ago, July 2022, and it was at 82 ng/mL. I have never had a respiratory infection of any kind and no colds. I do have some allergies but the effects are limited to my nose.
Thomas, I imagine that you grew up without childhood vaccines as I did. I have only had three vaccines in my life; polio, small pox, and hepatitis. When I had the small pox vaccine i didn't get a scab, either time. When I had no scab the first time I was given the scratch a second time but it too never formed a scab. When I went back to the family doctor he spoke to my mother about it but no one ever talked to me about the lack of a scab. I know now that not having a scab meant that I already had immunity to small pox. My childhood exposures were from my older brother but I didn't manifest any of the diseases.
The low D status of my family has perplexed me for over 10 years. I don’t use sunscreen, live in south coastal region of U S. Go outside a lot to garden. my kids swam inside and outside and at 18 and 21 years of age I had their D status checked both were in high 20s ng ml (us units). At 45 years I was also in high 20s and slowly now I am up to 50. My sudden recurrent menopausal bladder infection s went away as I increase supplemented D. I am not sure how to naturally get D up. Mercola says need more time and bare skin and I have heard less soap/showers. Not sure. I am fair but tan, my kids inherited darker skin tones and tan easily like their dad.I feel like I have to remind them to supplement d to keep them healthy.
The production of D3 in your skin is only activated when you are exposed to UVB. If you are on the East Coast but not in the deep south, you may not be getting enough exposure. If yo are fair but tan then that would indicate you may not be getting the exposure at the correct time of day. If it is cloudy, that would be a good time to get exposure. Clouds decrease UVA but are transparent to UVB. If you are supplementing with anything less than 10,000 IU, you may have to do it for many months to bring your levels up to a protective level. D3 is fat soluble and is stored to some degree. I suspect you are supplementing with too low a dose to do any good. Ten thousand International Units seems like a lot but it is only 250 micrograms. Since it is used in so many systems in your body you need much more than you think you do.
Kidney and liver function needs to be normal to process the vitamin D into its active hormone form. Also the correct form is D3 and not D2 which physicians prescribe in a mega dose of 50,000 IU’s. Accounts for some of the negative results about D! I take 5000 IU’s daily and it maintains my blood value at about 70 NG’s!
